Hey, Capt Ty,

Very nice shelter. Looks like you could weather some storms in that, safe and sound, and maybe even a little warm, too! ;) :) Have you had a chance to give it a try in various weathers, as of yet? Please keep us posted as to how it worked, or will work, when you do get to use it. Take care, and God Bless!

Mark,

My dad and I stayed in it last weekend during a rainstorm. We learned we need to extend the tarp to the end of the support braces. Water collected on the exposed part of the poles and ran inside and dripped off. We are also going to add a trench at the rear as a little water ran in the back. All in all, I am very pleased and may build another opposing it this winter.

Hey, Ty,

Sounds like you've sussed it out fairly well. If you build an opposing shelter, then both could share a fire in between them, for winter use. Looks like a good setup to me. What sort of tarp did you use? You could also wrap the sides, if necessary, in winter. Again, looks like a nice setup, and thanks for sharing it with us all. Take care, and God Bless!

The tarp is a commercial one from a hardware store, but it has the look of yellow ochre oil cloth. Eventually we plan to use fill in logs on the sides like the ones at Martin's Station.

Ty,
Not necessary but can get you one documentation for the trench if you want. Eighteenth Century people were not dumb!

Ty, it looks as though after some chinking it will be snug and warm........ provided you took into account the prevailing winds.

As I always say having half a face is much better that being two faced (oh that was bad wasn't it. I guess I'm out of practice). ;)

Dave,

I would like to see the documentation on the trench. Just for kicks.

Thanks,

Well, went to the basement to find the source - no luck at present. Wife has me finishing off the basement and everything is stored away and not where I expect things to be. Next time I retire I will buy a home with a finished basement! Anyway, will keep looking for the book.

Thanks Dave. No hurry. When are you going to head this way for an event?
