Re: 2009 ALRA Western Gathering!

Greetings, All, Next week, we'll all be meeting in Utah, once again, for our upcoming Western Gathering. They've had snow at the higher elevations, so nights should be chilly, if not down-right cold. Please plan accordingly, and bring lots of warm blankets and proper clothing, as well as food that w...

Re: Half Face

Hey, Ty, Sounds like you've sussed it out fairly well. If you build an opposing shelter, then both could share a fire in between them, for winter use. Looks like a good setup to me. What sort of tarp did you use? You could also wrap the sides, if necessary, in winter. Again, looks like a nice setup,...

Re: Half Face

Hey, Capt Ty, Very nice shelter. Looks like you could weather some storms in that, safe and sound, and maybe even a little warm, too! ;) :) Have you had a chance to give it a try in various weathers, as of yet? Please keep us posted as to how it worked, or will work, when you do get to use it. Take ...

Re: melting pitch to repair a leather canteen.

Evening, Larry,

Many thanks, Sir! That's pretty much what I decided to do, and we'll see how it all turns out. Hey, if it works, then I'll be a happy camper, and if not, well... since it already leaks, I've lost nothing in the try, eh?! Thanks, again, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Mark

melting pitch to repair a leather canteen.

Morning, All, I bought a "Mary Rose" leather canteen from the fairly well-known cordwainer, John Bush, many years ago, and liked it quite a bit. Then, when out on a solo scout once, I slipped and fell right on top of it, cracking it's internal sealing pitch to the point that it now leaks like a siev...
