Re: Shirts...the foundation of all comfort
Hey, again, Dave I am seeking to document a 100% wool shirt, much like can be found elsewhere in coloni America, but used in the south. A shirt made from a blanket would be too heavy. Slaves in Boston and the Chesepeake region had slaves with wool shirts, but I am not finding documentation for them ...

Re: Shirts...the foundation of all comfort
Hey,Dave
Thank you very much for helping me!
I have seen this before, but it means the cloth is a wool blend. I am seeking documentation on a 100% wool shirt worn by a non-slave in the colonial south. If you see a anything more, please holler!
Stay well

Shirts...the foundation of all comfort
Hey, everybody Every bit of advice for staying alive during winter romps starts with the layering technique: inner layer to wick away moisture, the middle layer to provide warmth, and the outter layer to keep the wind out. And every 18th century traveler using this technique will suggest wool as you...

Turn back the water, Moses
Hey, all With all the water we've experienced this summer and fall, I have spent quite some time talking to my young (boy) scouts about how to stay dry in the southern Appalachians. That's mostly about storing your Gore-Tex near the top of your pack. Moving that discussion to the 18th century, I am ...

Re: Fighting the hair ribbon wars!
Doc M, Ty shared with me that same bit of information some months back. Unlike you, however, I've yet to pick up some wool tape. I have used cotton tape without success and have had to cut leather out of my hair. Mostly, I've just let it fly every which way from under my hat. I'll be a ribbon kid so...

Hi, Roy There are lots of folks connected with the ALRA who have much deeper experience in this type of research than I, but let me simply state that there's a lot of room for interpretation available to this gentleman. He can find a serviceable rifle within his budget, mounted in brass but plain, a...

A black fox! Wow, in that first picture you've posted, you can tell that fox is a mean s.o.b...snarlin' under that flapped hat. Good thing he'd already eaten or you'da been dinner!

Re: Martin's Station
From pictures and tall tales, Martin's has to be the Mecca for the southeastern woodrunners, and I've never been. Every May and October is a busy time in my world, so it's looking like Martin's has to be a post-retirement gig for me. Y'all boys hold the fort until then. God-willin' and the creek don...

Re: Lead ingots for ball mold
Hey, Duane
Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the tip. Now I've got to raid the range before Tony Cox beats me to the punch...'course he always beats us to the punch, right?
Hope you are well!

Lead ingots for ball mold
Hey, all After I've pilfered some lead from the fort walls, cleaned and melted them down, to what size and shape should the end product, i.e, the ingot, be? Do you form them with the ladle, each to a size that fills your ladle for campfire ball-runnin'? Is there a "correct" way? Thank you... -- Bill
